Alma Alvarado

Alma has a spiritual connection to the mountains surrounding El Palmito San Dimas, Durango, Mexico, where she grew up. After Mexico, her lived experience in Planada, CA for four years fermented her interest in learning the history of rural California. In addition, her eleven-year-long undocumented identity shaped her as an interdisciplinary artist, educator, and scholar based in Merced, CA. Alma has a BA in Anthropology and Spanish Literature from UCLA and at UC Merced is working on exploring the complex relationships between film/media and community exercises in rural Mexico. She is committed to supporting and celebrating displaced folks through written and visual storytelling.
